A FARMHOUSE STYLE SOLUTION

Updated: Dec 15, 2020

In certain home renovations, Jon and his team have come across issues that sometimes complicate the overall project plans. With Jon's combination of real estate expertise and carpentry skills however, the team always seems to find a custom-made solution.

When Jon and Mary took on the renovation of a smaller "road-house" style home, they were faced with the challenge of making a small property look attractive to a family. In this home, the floor plan included two bedrooms and only one bathroom. With a family of their own at home, Jon and Mary knew the best way to make this single bathroom work would be to add a double sink. The addition of a double sink made the bathroom more suitable for two people to use it at one time and hence, created a better environment for a couple or a young family buying their first home together.

“The addition of a double sink made the bathroom more suitable for two people to use it at one time and hence, created a better environment for a couple or a young family buying their first home together.”

The originally bathroom was simple and had a single sink installed. While the double sink was originally a simple idea, it was soon complicated by the fact that there was a single drain hole. Jon discovered this challenge alongside the plumber on his team and the two realized that a double sink - one requiring two drains - would not be feasible without a significant plumbing overhaul in the house. As a result, a custom sink solution was created.

After measuring the space and making sure the design still fit in with the rest of Mary's plans, Jon set to work. He created a wooden bathroom vanity which would allow for a double farmhouse-style sink to sit atop it. The farmhouse sink solved the problem as it provided one large basin which flowed into a single drain hole. The wooden structure was finished off with stain and sealant. After installation, Mary added her touch of style with some classic wicker baskets, which sat carefully on the bottom shelf, providing storage and easy decor.

What could have led to a costly overhaul project ended up creating a unique piece for this newly renovated family home.
